The Art of Layering.
A wardrobe gets more interesting when you stop thinking in complete outfits. A fitted base beneath a long wrap. A tunic playing against the volume of wide-leg pants. A sleeveless dress carried into cooler weather with a soft poncho or shrug. Layering lets you change the proportion, reveal a little of what’s underneath, and create combinations that are entirely your own.
Our Essential Layers are built around that way of dressing. Soft stretch jersey creates the foundation. Wraps, shrugs, tunics, vests, and jackets add shape and coverage. Cotton brings natural texture; bamboo fleece adds warmth without sending the rest of your wardrobe into hibernation.
Wear something long over something lean. Let a hem show. Mix fitted with fluid. Put a jacket over a dress you thought you were finished wearing until spring. There’s room to experiment here—and no particular reason everything has to match.
These are clothes for days with more than one destination. A gallery in the afternoon. Dinner somewhere you hadn’t planned on. A flight that lands in completely different weather. Layers let you adjust without starting over.
And while cooler weather gives us more reason to layer, the idea is decidedly all-season. Sleeveless pieces become foundations. Lightweight jersey works beneath a vest or jacket. Bamboo fleece comes into play when the temperature actually calls for it. The wardrobe shifts rather than starting over every few months.
That means fewer pieces relegated to a particular season—and more opportunities to wear the things you already love in ways you hadn’t considered.
Good layers give you options. Great ones give you personality.
